Diego Joaquin Ramirez is an Irish-born drummer and composer based in Brooklyn, NY. Known for his vibrant sound, fluent versatility and effortless groove, he has performed and recorded with a wide range of world-class artists, including Marc Cary, Circuit Kisser, Carrtoons, Jeremy Pelt, Melanie Charles, Wayne Tucker, Jonathan Scales, Niwel Tsumbu, and EndeaOwens. He has performed on world-renown stages such as NPRTinyDesk, The Blue Note, and The Kennedy Center.

In every setting, Diego brings his rich cultural heritage and distinct voice to the music. The child of a Yaqui Native American mother and a Guatemalan father, Diego was raised in Ireland on a rich diet of the folkloric music of the Americas, supplemented by 90’s Boom- Bap, Rock and Electronica. He started playing drums at the age of two, and by elementary school he was gigging with his father’s Salsa band. These early influences formed Diego's musical DNA, and continue to serve as inspirations both on the bandstand and off.

A composer in his own right, he received the ASCAP Herb Alpert Jazz Composition Award and was a finalist in the 2017 DC Jazz Prix Competition with his Project SULA. He is currently working on his first album, Estratos, which will debut in 2024.
